Registration for Dance Classes:

Cynthia’s School of Dance offers a 10-month dance program starting after Labor Day and ending the last week of June.

Cynthia’s also offers a 6-week summer dance program beginning after July 4th.

Tiny Tot Class Ages 2-3

This class consists of tap, ballet, tumbling and lots of fun! The children learn the beginning dance and tumbling steps. The class uses props and active imaginations to create memorable times.  This class is offered at 30 min. or 45 min.

Pre-School Class Ages 3-4

This 60 minute class consists of 20 minutes each of tap, ballet, tumbling and lots of fun! The children learn the beginning dance and tumbling steps. The class uses props and active imaginations to create memorable times. It builds on the skills learned in Tiny Tots.

Level 1 Ages 4-5

This 60-minute class consists of tap and ballet. The children learn the ballet positions and barre work while using French terminology. In tap they learn basic patterns and rhythms to set their feet a tappin’.

Level 2 Ages 5-8

Level 2 is designed for dancers who have a foundational understanding of both tap and ballet techniques and are ready to further refine their skills. Level 2 offers a balanced regimen, dedicating 30 minutes each to ballet and tap, ensuring a comprehensive refinement of their skills.

The class is the ideal progression from Level 1, where dancers hone their skills by building upon the solid foundation and techniques from the previous level.

  • Ballet: Dancers will work on refining their basic techniques and building strength and flexibility. They will practice essential barre exercises such as pliés, tendus, and relevés, and begin to incorporate more challenging movements like pirouettes and small jumps. Focus will be placed on proper alignment, turnout, and graceful arm and head positions.
  • Tap: Dancers will focus on developing clearer sounds and more precise rhythms. They will work on fundamental steps such as shuffles and flaps. Emphasis will be placed on musicality, timing, and coordination, helping dancers to create clean, crisp sounds and execute more intricate footwork patterns

Level 3 Ages 8-11 (average ages)

Level 3 Dance offers a comprehensive training program for dedicated dancers seeking refinement in their ballet and tap skills and adding jazz dancing to their talents. This dynamic class spans 90 minutes, dedicating 30 minutes each to style of dance. Perfect for dancers wanting to improve their skills across multiple disciplines.

  • Ballet: Delve into the precision of classical ballet with focusing on technique, alignment, and fluidity.
  • Jazz: Explore the energetic and expressive movements of jazz dance, incorporating rhythms, isolations, leaps, and turns, while honing musicality and stage presence.
  • Tap: Dive into the rhythmic world of tap dance, mastering intricate footwork, and syncopation, through steps such as shuffles, flaps, cramp rolls, and time steps.

Level 4

Level 4 is 120-minute session tailored for dancers seeking to refine their skills across multiple disciplines. The class consists of ballet, jazz and tap, 45 minutes of each:

  • Ballet: Dancers will focus on advanced techniques, working on turns, jumps such as grand jetés, and intricate footwork. They will also work on perfecting their alignment, balance, and flexibility through challenging barre and center exercises.
  • Jazz: Dancers will practice high-energy combinations, intricate isolations, and develop their performance quality. Emphasis will be placed on musicality, precision, and expression through fun and innovative choreography.
  • Tap: Dancer will work to enhance rhythm, speed, and clarity. Dancers will engage in complex time steps, pick-ups, and syncopated footwork patterns. They will also work on improvisation skills and learning routines that challenge their coordination and timing.
    Each segment is meticulously crafted to challenge dancers, foster versatility, and elevate performance quality, providing a comprehensive training experience for those committed to their artistry.

Level 5

Level 5 is designed for advanced dancers committed to achieving excellence and mastering their skills. This class dedicates 60 minutes to ballet, 45 minutes to jazz, 45 minutes to tap and 30 minutes of contemporary.

  • Ballet: Dancers will refine their execution of advanced movements like pirouettes, fouetté turns, and intricate petit allegro combinations. They will also work on perfecting their adagio sequences, and developing greater strength, fluidity, and artistry in their performances.
  • Jazz: Dancer will delve into advanced styles, including commercial jazz and theatrical jazz. They will practice intricate and fast-paced combinations, advanced leaps and turns, and expressive choreography that demands high levels of technical skill and versatility. Emphasis will be placed on stage presence and dynamic performance quality.
  • Tap: Dancers will work to achieve precision and speed in their footwork. They will tackle advanced rhythmic patterns, complex time signatures, and challenging choreography that integrates musicality and expression. Improvisation and personal style will be encouraged to help dancers develop their unique voice within the tap genre.
  • Contemporary: Dancers will explore the fluidity and emotional depth of contemporary dance. Focus will be placed on musicality and on storytelling through movement. Dancers will be encouraged to experiment with improvisation and develop their unique artistic voice.

Each segment of Level 5 is structured to enhance the dancer’s technical proficiency, artistic expression, and overall versatility, preparing them for higher levels of performance.

Contemporary

An expressive form of dance that combines the controlled leg work of ballet as well as movements from jazz, and lyrical. Contemporary dancers work to connect their mind with the music and their body. One of the most important aspects of contemporary dance is the element of improvisation. Contemporary dancing includes movements with changes in rhythm, speed and direction. It can also include floor work.

Hip-Hop Ages 5 & up

This class is for the dancer who wants to have fun and learn the street dance moves of hip hop dancing. There are different classes for different age groups.

Annual Dance Recital:

On the last day of dance, we hold a special award ceremony in the studio to honor the dedication and progress of our students throughout the 10-month session. This ceremony celebrates their hard work and achievements, creating a memorable moment for both dancers and their families.
On the last Sunday in June, students showcase their skills and passion for dance in our highly anticipated end-of-year recital! This event is held in a theater performance venue, providing a grand stage for all our dancers to shine!

Prior to the recital, a rehearsal is conducted at the venue, giving every student the opportunity to practice on stage and prepare for their big performance.

What will my dancer need for class?

  • Girls: Leotard and Tights – Any color or style is acceptable.  No Jeans or street clothes.  Long hair should be pulled back.
  • Boys: T-shirt and shorts or sweat pants
